Speak Better Grammar

About Vander Kitten

I’m not a cat person; I had to get that out there.  It’s just a nickname I got from Nin, a good friend who happens to be married to one of Chris’ best friends.  I married Dutch and the nickname followed a few years later.

I’ve wanted to be a writer since the 1st grade, when my best friend Emily Lomonoco and I used to try to sell homemade books to our classmates.  I earn a paycheck not through writing but through corporate learning and development.  I satisfy my writing dreams through an unpublished book I don’t spend enough time editing, and through this blog.

For a few years in late high school and early college, I planned to become a political writer (most likely for the Washington Post) to combine the writing itch with my fascination in politics.  The fascination has been touched by cynicism as I’ve aged, but it is still prevalent in my life.

My love of the English language and reverence for its rules began in my freshmen year of high school, and can be firmly and truly attributed to Mr. Dale Gossett.

In 2002, I married the man of my dreams, a film student at the time.   He and I live in Mountain View, California, now, and are blessed with family and friends flung near and far. I link to their sites whenever possible.

Chris and I love to travel, and together have visited Singapore, New Zealand, London, Buenos Aires, and at least ten states.  Without him, I have often traveled for work and have also been to Hong Kong, Taiwan, and India, plus a smattering of European countries during collegiate foreign study.

This site is a combination of all of what I’ve told you: my writing, politics, and grammar interests; my husband and friends; and the travel Chris and I enjoy together.  Occasionally, I will rant.

My father encouraged my interest in writing from when I first remember it remember it forming.  This blog is dedicated to him, who is surely one of my top two most faithful readers.

  1. I think there was a Mr. Gossett in my high school in the grand state of Live Free or Die (NH).

I’ve been a closet writer since the 8th grade and am finally pushing for a reality. Not sure yet how it will turn out, but I’m crossing my fingers :D

    Have a fantastic Hawaiian vacation!
